The Learning Support Department exists to help any pupil with the way that they learn and in particular to support those pupils who have special needs. Our aim is to support pupils in a caring and sensitive way so that they can maximise their potential.

The Learning Support Team consists of  full-time teachers, with additional support from Teaching Assistants working across the whole school curriculum. Liaision with our partner Primary Schools, subject teachers, the pastoral team and outside agencies ensures the sharing of a wide range of information.

Teaching and Learning

Learning Support provides:

  • Up-to-date assessment data
  • Advice to subject teachers to help them to meet individual needs
  • Small group teaching in English in years 7-11
  • Help with homework and coursework through our popular homework club which meets daily at lunch times and on Fridays after school.
  • ICT support
  • Behaviour/Anger Management support.
  • Dyslexia support.

Parents as Partners

Every member of the Learning Support Team is also a parent and we appreciate how parents want to be involved in their son’s education. A good partnership is vital to ensure success at school. The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Miss Buchanan, is always available to advise and help parents.
