This a large and successful department where the staff work closely as a team to maximise the potential of all students. Within the purpose-built maths block there is a computer suite, with thirty networked computers and all classrooms have a projector so that ICT can be accessed in all lessons. Classes are setted from Year 7 and the choice of materials and curriculum delivery methods is carefully chosen to create a suitable learning environment. The development of good problem solving and investigational skills is actively encouraged, as is the appropriate use of ICT, including maths games, spreadsheets and dynamic geometry software. We also have two class sets of graphic calculators which are regularly used across all year groups and a class set of TV quiz style remotes for starters and tests. Interest in the subject, beyond the limits of the classroom is also promoted, particularly through our involvement in the UK Mathematics Challenge.
